Camp and Fishing Programs
So you're curious about fishing with Alaska Rainbow Adventures?
Awesome! Let me tell you a bit about what we do.
We specialize in unforgettable multi-day wilderness float fishing trips in Southwest Alaska and the legendary Bristol Bay region. For over three decades, we've been showing folks like you some of the most incredible and productive flopat fishing rivers Alaska has to offer.
Imagine this: you hop on a floatplane from a hub like Bethel, King Salmon or Dillingham, Alaska and in no time, you're landing on a pristine river, miles from any roads. That's where the adventure truly begins! We float downstream in comfortable rafts, and each day brings new opportunities to cast a line in world-class waters.
Now, what kind of fish are we talking about? Depending on the river and the time of year, you could be tangling with some seriously impressive Rainbow Trout. On rivers like the Kanektok, we're famous for our trophy-sized "Leopard Rainbows" – they're absolute beasts! But that's not all. We also get fantastic runs of all five species of Pacific Salmon – King, Sockeye, Coho, Chum, and Pink. And don't forget the beautiful Arctic Char and Dolly Varden, the acrobatic Arctic Grayling, and even Lake Trout on some of our trips.
We fish a variety of incredible rivers, each with its own unique charm:
The Kanektok River, where those monster Leopard Rainbows chase mice right on the surface – it's a sight to behold! Plus, great salmon runs.
The Goodnews River is a real gem for catching all five salmon species, as well as hefty rainbows, Dollies, and grayling.
The Alagnak River is a powerhouse for King Salmon and big rainbows, and it sees a massive sockeye run.
The Togiak River is another fantastic river for a mix of salmon, rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, and grayling.
For a more intimate experience, rivers like the Arolik offer chances at trophy salmon, trout, and char.
And then there's Moraine Creek, where the rainbows get fat feasting on sockeye salmon eggs – truly spectacular fishing!
Beyond the exceptional fishing, a hallmark of an Alaska Rainbow Adventures float tripis the thoughtfully designed and comfortable camping experience. These aren't your average backcountry setups; instead, they are meticulously planned mobile camps that offer a surprising level of amenity and relaxation after a day on the water.
Each evening, as the rafts pull up to a chosen campsite, guides and guests work together to efficiently establish your wilderness home. This collaborative effort ensures that camp is set up quickly and smoothly, allowing everyone to transition from a day of exciting fishing to a comfortable evening in the Alaskan wilderness. Guests can anticipate spacious, high-quality tents, typically roomy enough for two people and their gear, providing a private sanctuary for a restful night's sleep. Inside, comfortable sleeping pads and cots are provided; just add your own sleeping bag or rent one of ours (for a small cleaning fee), ensuring you're well-insulated from the Alaskan chill. The emphasis is on practicality and comfort, creating a welcoming space where you can unwind and recharge for the next day's adventure.
The heart of the camp is a large, communal wall tent, serving as the dining and social hub. Here, guests gather for delicious, hearty meals prepared by a talented camp chef. OK, it's usually one of the guides on a camp stove, but they are pretty good at this! Expect fresh, wholesome cuisine, often incorporating local ingredients and even fresh-caught fish from the day's angling. From substantial breakfasts to fuel your morning, to lunches on the river, and satisfying dinners under the vast Alaskan sky, the food is a significant highlight of the trip. Beyond meals, this central area provides a comfortable space to share stories, tie flies, or simply relax. Portable toilet facilities are discreetly set up in a private location, and hand-washing stations ensure hygiene in the wilderness. The dedication to these amenities truly elevates the "camping" aspect into a comfortable and well-supported outdoor living experience, allowing you to focus on the fishing and the breathtaking Alaskan scenery.
For those seeking the pinnacle of wilderness luxury and convenience on a Alaska float trip, our Fisherman's Deluxe trips on the Alagnak, Goodnews, and Kanektok Rivers are our top-of-the-line experiences. These trips take the already comfortable float camping experience to the next level. With the "Fisherman's Deluxe" option, a separate gear boat moves ahead of the fishing party, ensuring that camp is fully set up and ready for your arrival each evening. You'll simply step off your fishing raft and into a fully established, welcoming camp, complete with your tent pitched, dining area prepared, and often even a warm campfire awaiting. This seamless transition allows you to maximize your fishing time and truly relax and enjoy the pristine Alaskan wilderness without a single worry about camp logistics. It's the ultimate way to experience remote Alaska, blending rugged adventure with refined comfort.
More about the different trip styles...
The Standard Deluxe option is our go-to trip option on almost all the trips and waters we float and is what the rates on the schedule page are based upon. It offers all the same fantastic camping amenities, just without the separate gear boat and camp hand setting up camp for you that the Fishermans Deluxe option features, Yes there is a little guest participation in camp setup and take down.
Our Fisherman's Deluxe trips which are available options for trips on the Alagnak, Goodnews and Kanektok Rivers are our top-of-the-line experiences. You'll have a dedicated gear boat and a camp assistant who sets everything up for you, so you can maximize your fishing time and relax in ultimate comfort.
For those seeking a more rugged and immersive experience, our Intimate Rivers trips to places like the Arolik and Talachulitna use smaller rafts and focus on the raw beauty and incredible fishing of these wilder waters.
You'll be fishing with our experienced guides, regardless of your chosen trip. They know these rivers like the back of their hand and are passionate about helping you hook into some amazing fish. They're great teachers, too, so whether you're a seasoned fly fisher or just starting out with a spin rod, they'll have you covered. We usually have two guests per guide in a raft, so you get plenty of personalized attention.
We take care of a lot for you. Typically, your trip includes:
Those scenic floatplane flights to and from the river.
All your delicious meals and snacks, plus non-alcoholic drinks.
Really comfortable camping gear – think roomy tents with cots and chairs.
Expert guidance and fishing instruction.
We can often lend you rods, reels, and nets if you need them; just let us know when you book your trip.
You'll need to handle your flights to Anchorage and then to the smaller hub city of Bethel, King Salmon, or Dillingham, your guide gratuities, and your personal fishing gear (waders, boots, flies - we provide a selection of flies, but we know many of you like to tie your own, so bring them along, lures, etc. – we provide a packing list ), and your fishing license. And if you'd like any alcoholic beverages, we can usually arrange that for an extra charge or point you toward a bush order provider.
