Are you considering an Alaskan fishing adventure next season?

Posted on October 21, 2023March 7, 2025 by guides@akrainbow.com

Alaskan fishing trips are highly sought after, and planning ahead is crucial to securing your preferred dates, river to fish, and itinerary. Here are a few steps to consider when making your summer Alaskan fishing plans:

Choose Your Dates: Decide on the time frame in which you’d like to go fishing in Alaska. Keep in mind that the Alaskan fishing season varies depending on the fish you want to catch. Salmon fishing for sockeye and chinook is typically best from late June to mid and late July. Coho or silver salmon are considered fall fish and available from early August well into September. Rainbow trout are available all season, though some believe spring and fall to be peak times.

Group Size: Determine the size of your group. If you plan to go with friends or family, ensure you have a clear idea of how many people will join you.

Contact Us: Contact us here at Alaska Rainbow Adventures about booking for the next season. Inquire about availability, rates, and any specific needs sooner in the planning process than later, as the dates you desire may sell out.

Plan Your Travel: Consider your travel logistics if traveling from outside Alaska. We will provide you with logistics information on when to arrive at the starting point of your trip, as well as lodging opportunities in the area if necessary.

Gear and Equipment: Discuss what gear and equipment are provided and what you need to bring. A suggested list is available in the FAQ section of our website, but we will be happy to review this with you. Make sure you have appropriate clothing and gear for the Alaskan wilderness.

Licensing and Regulations: Familiarize yourself with the fishing regulations for the river you will be visiting with us. You will need a fishing license, which must be purchased online from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

Reservations and Deposits: If you’re happy with the terms, book your trip and confirm the reservations by paying any required deposit. Be clear about their cancellation policy, trip insurance requirements, and payment schedule.

Pre-Trip Preparation: As your trip approaches, make a checklist of items you need to bring, including fishing gear, clothing, and personal essentials. Ensure everyone in your group is prepared.

Enjoy Your Trip: Once everything is in order, all that’s left to do is enjoy your Alaskan fishing adventure in the beautiful wilderness of Alaska.

Remember that planning ahead and being well-prepared will help ensure you have a successful and enjoyable fishing trip. Alaska offers incredible fishing experiences, so make the most of your Alaska adventures with us at Alaska Rainbow Adventures!

About Us

Step into the current with Alaska Rainbow Adventures and you're stepping into the real Alaska — not the polished lodge version, not the brochure fantasy. For more than three decades, we've run rivers the way they're meant to be run: the Kanektok, Goodnews, Alagnak, Moraine, Arolik, and Togiak. Wild water. Wild fish. Country that doesn't bend for anyone.

This whole thing started with one guide, Paul Hansen, chasing the kind of days that get under your skin and stay there. A mouse‑eat in the half‑light. A bend in the river no one else will see that day. A rainbow flashing in the sun like it owns the place. Those moments hit you in the ribs and remind you why you came north. That feeling is the reason we're still out here.

Our trips are built the way Alaska demands: small groups, real wilderness, and gear that holds up when the weather decides to test you. Big tents you can stand in. Hot meals cooked beside the river. Guides who know every braid and every mood swing these waters can throw. With exclusive USFWS permits and miles of river to ourselves, every float is unhurried, unfiltered, and honest.

This isn't a vacation.
This is the real deal — take it or leave it.

It's a week where the noise drops away, the river calls the shots, and you remember what it feels like to be fully present in a place that doesn't care about your inbox or your deadlines. You don't just fish here — you feel the country in your bones.

Come see what's waiting for you!
