How far in advance should you book your Alaska float fishing trip for next year?

Posted on May 7, 2024  0 Comments

Suppose you’re planning to go on an exciting Alaska float fishing trip next year. In that case, we recommend that you start booking your trip now, at least 6 to 18 months in advance, especially if you are looking for a custom trip for your group outside of our regularly scheduled trips. The reason for this is that the fishing season in Alaska is short-lived, and the best trips fill up quickly due to limited capacity. You should book at least a year ahead to ensure you don’t miss out on a fantastic fishing experience with us here at Alaska Rainbow Adventures. Our exclusive trips only accommodate eight guests at a time, especially for prime dates like July and August, so securing your spot as early as possible is essential.

Booking this far in advance is crucial for several reasons. First and foremost, the rivers that we fish in Alaska require special permits, which are very limited in number. Booking your trip also early ensures that you can get a spot on the river you want to fish when you want to fish and for the species you want to target. Moreover, our Alaska float fishing operation is small and intimate, with limited space. Our best dates are often booked up a year or more in advance, so if you have your heart set on a particular river and specific time, don’t wait to make your reservation.

Alaska’s peak fishing season is relatively short, typically from June to September. For the rivers in Southwest Alaska, such as Goodnews, Togiak, and Kanektok, the season is even shorter and does not kick off until early July. And if you’re looking to catch specific species of salmon, like king or silver salmon, you’ll need to book your trip during their peak runs.

Here are some additional tips for booking your Alaska float fishing trip:

– Be flexible with your travel dates. If you’re flexible, you’ll have a better chance of finding availability on one of the waters we can take you to.

– Consider shoulder seasons. The shoulder seasons (Late June – early July and September) can offer excellent fishing opportunities with fewer crowds.

– Book your flights early. Don’t wait! Be sure to book your flights once you’ve booked your fishing trip. Airfare to Alaska can be expensive, especially during peak season.

By booking early, you’ll have a better chance of securing your preferred dates on the river that interests you most so that you can fish for the species you desire to target. You’ll also have more time to plan the rest of your trip, such as flights and accommodations. So, start planning now and prepare for an unforgettable Alaska float fishing trip!

About Us

Step into the current with Alaska Rainbow Adventures and you're stepping into the real Alaska — not the polished lodge version, not the brochure fantasy. For more than three decades, we've run rivers the way they're meant to be run: the Kanektok, Goodnews, Alagnak, Moraine, Arolik, and Togiak. Wild water. Wild fish. Country that doesn't bend for anyone.

This whole thing started with one guide, Paul Hansen, chasing the kind of days that get under your skin and stay there. A mouse‑eat in the half‑light. A bend in the river no one else will see that day. A rainbow flashing in the sun like it owns the place. Those moments hit you in the ribs and remind you why you came north. That feeling is the reason we're still out here.

Our trips are built the way Alaska demands: small groups, real wilderness, and gear that holds up when the weather decides to test you. Big tents you can stand in. Hot meals cooked beside the river. Guides who know every braid and every mood swing these waters can throw. With exclusive USFWS permits and miles of river to ourselves, every float is unhurried, unfiltered, and honest.

This isn't a vacation.
This is the real deal — take it or leave it.

It's a week where the noise drops away, the river calls the shots, and you remember what it feels like to be fully present in a place that doesn't care about your inbox or your deadlines. You don't just fish here — you feel the country in your bones.

Come see what's waiting for you!
