Participant Information

Participant Responsibility: Participants acknowledge that they are solely responsible for determining whether they are physically and mentally capable of safely participating in wilderness activities including hiking, wading, rafting, camping, and travel in remote environments. Participants agree to disclose any medical conditions, injuries, or limitations that may affect their safety.

Travel Insurance Requirement

Guests are required to purchase travel insurance sufficient to cover all nonrefundable trip payments and related travel expenses. Before purchasing a policy, guests must confirm directly with the insurer—in writing—that coverage applies if Alaska Rainbow Adventures cancels or cannot operate the expedition because river, water, weather, wildfire, natural-disaster or other wilderness conditions make the trip unsafe or impracticable, even when commercial airline or air-taxi service has not completely ceased.

Many policies cover only specifically named events. General “trip cancellation” or weather coverage may not cover an operator’s safety-based cancellation caused by high water, flooded campsites, unsafe river conditions or similar circumstances. Guests should provide the insurer with this exact scenario and obtain written confirmation of coverage before the policy’s review or refund period expires.

We strongly recommend — but do not require — additional coverage such as:

  • Emergency medical evacuation
  • Coverage for remote wilderness activities
  • Helicopter evacuation
  • Pandemic-related cancellation
  • “Cancel For Any Reason” (CFAR) upgrades
Why This Matters

Remote Southwest Alaska runs on weather, small aircraft, and tight logistics. Delays happen. Occasionally, plans change.

Without coverage, delays, cancellations, or missed connections remain the guest’s responsibility.

If standard trip-cancellation coverage does not include these circumstances, guests should ask whether broader coverage or a Cancel for Any Reason benefit is available and carefully review its limits, purchase deadlines and reimbursement percentage.

Alaska Rainbow Adventures does not sell insurance, interpret policies, guarantee coverage or make claim decisions. The guest is responsible for selecting suitable coverage and complying with all policy requirements.

Insurance Timing

Standard travel insurance can typically be purchased well after booking. Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) coverage must typically be purchased within 14–21 days of your initial deposit.

Need Help?

Coverage questions must be answered in writing by the insurer or a licensed insurance professional. Alaska Rainbow Adventures cannot determine whether a policy provides the required protection.

Given the remoteness of Southwest Alaska and the realities of bush-plane travel, travel insurance is essential protection against significant financial loss.

Terms and Conditions

Health and Safety Requirements

Medical Fitness and Disclosure: Participation requires adequate physical condition for wilderness activities including hiking, wading in rivers, and camping. You must disclose any medical conditions that could affect your safety or participation.

Booking and Reservations

All trips are booked first-come, first-served and subject to prior commitments. Spaces are not guaranteed until confirmed with required deposit. Group size limits: Standard trips 2–10 persons, Togiak River maximum 6 guests (federal permit requirement), Goodnews and Kanektok Rivers maximum 8 guests. Single anglers may join existing trips subject to availability.

Weight Restrictions

Weight limit: 250 pounds per person including all personal gear and any equipment rented from us. We will attempt to accommodate additional weight whenever possible within the limits of available aircraft. This may result in additional charges for extra aircraft capacity, requirement to leave excess items behind at the departure point, or no guarantee of accommodation beyond the 250 lb limit.

Payment Terms

Deposits and Payment Schedule: 50% deposit required to confirm booking, due within 15 days of requesting space. Balance due 60 days before trip start or June 1st, whichever comes first. Reservations within 60 days require full payment at booking. Payment by check or wire transfer only.

No-Refund Policy: All deposits and payments are non-refundable and non-transferable for any reason, including but not limited to illness, injury, weather delays, travel disruptions, or personal emergencies. Transfer Option: You may transfer your reserved spot to another qualified person subject to our approval and completion of required documentation.

Transportation and Third-Party Services

Important: Air transportation is provided by independent charter operators and is NOT owned or controlled by Alaska Rainbow Adventures. We are not responsible for flight delays, cancellations, mechanical issues, aircraft safety, pilot qualifications, baggage loss/damage, or weather-related disruptions.

Company Responsibilities and Limitations

Alaska Rainbow Adventures is not responsible for loss, damage, or injury caused by weather conditions, natural disasters, transportation problems, government actions, travel restrictions, health emergencies, pandemics, equipment failures beyond our control, or third-party service provider issues.

Personal Property Responsibility: Participants are solely responsible for the safety and security of their personal equipment, clothing, fishing gear, cameras, phones, and other belongings. Alaska Rainbow Adventures is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to personal property during transportation, river travel, camp operations, or any trip activities.

Weather Decision Authority: Floatplane pilots have final authority on fly/no-fly decisions. After 2–3 days of weather delays, insufficient time may remain to complete the trip safely. Head guides may cancel trips due to flooding, dangerous water levels, or other extreme conditions. All weather-related cancellations are force majeure events subject to our no-refund policy.

Safety and Conduct

Guide Authority and Participant Conduct: Alaska Rainbow Adventures guides have full authority regarding safety decisions during all trip activities. Participants agree to follow all instructions and safety directives provided by guides and staff.

Failure to follow guide instructions or engaging in unsafe conduct may increase the risk of injury and may result in restriction from activities or termination of participation in the trip. If, in the sole judgment of the guides or staff, a participant refuses to follow safety instructions, is under the influence of drugs or excessive alcohol during activities, or behaves in a manner that endangers themselves, other guests, staff, wildlife, or the trip, Alaska Rainbow Adventures may restrict that participant from activities or terminate their participation at the earliest practical and safe opportunity without refund.

Any additional transportation, evacuation, or logistical costs resulting from such removal, including but not limited to aircraft charter or helicopter transport, shall be the sole responsibility of the participant.

Alcohol Policy: Moderate consumption by guests 21+ permitted during designated camp times only. Strictly prohibited during fishing, river activities, equipment operation, safety briefings, and transportation.

Emergency Communications

We utilize satellite communications for emergencies. Response times may be limited by weather, terrain, and other factors beyond our control.
